Ron Thomas
It is with
deep regret that we announce the passing of our
much loved Verger, Ron Thomas on
Thursday 18th February 2010 at the age of 73.
Ron had been battling with a short illness
before his death and had been continuing to
serve as Verger until very recently. He was a
much loved member of the congregation and
undertook all Verger roles
within the life of the church with care and
diligence.
The Funeral service will be in
St. Wilfrid's Church at 1pm on Thursday 11th March.
The Cross - Meditations on
a Theme
6:00pm Sunday 7th March
St. Wilfrid's
On
Sunday evening Fr. Andrew started to realise an
8yr ambition to do a series of talks during the
Sundays in Lent on Meditations which utilise not
only the sense of sound through prayer, readings
from scripture and literature but also the
visual senses in paintings - all to meditate on
a specific theme - The Cross.
Each of the 4 Sunday meditations uses the same
reading from Isaiah 53:1-12 and this, the first,
was using
The Message translation
by
Eugene H. Peterson.
The picture used as
a
visual focus was the arresting picture of the
Crucifixion painted by Stanley Spencer in 1958.

John Hayward
Our dear friend John Hayward passed away
on Sunday 14th February at St. Richard's Hospital. The
funeral service was held at St. Wilfrid's Church at 12:00
noon on Thursday 4th March. A full account of John's remarkable life
is being built up on our People's Page section and you
can read the first draft
with links to a recording of the complete service here.

Parish Lunch
Youth Style
14th February
Wendy Morris and her young helpers provided us with veritable feast
of entertainment served in three courses with some lunch thrown in for
good measure too! The free event (the cost of the food was met by the
group) was extremely well attended and no-one who wanted to come along
along after the morning service was turned away. Donations raised for
the HIV Charity was an amazing £423.50. Everything from the placing of
the tables, the table displays, the hall decorations to the wonderful
central setting of the cake deserts (see above) featured hearts and
focused on love. A huge thank you to all concerned for such a heartening
event and well done on raising so much money for such a worthwhile
cause.

Church Hall
Auction of Promises

A huge
thank-you to all who supported this successful event. Thank you to all
who generously donated items to be auctioned and also to those who
supported the evening by bidding for all the lots.
It was great
fun to see so many people bidding against one another for the lots in
the catalogue - items ranging from dog walking to a dinner for ten, an
airport taxi to house-work were all sold successfully.
Our thanks
must also go to our auctioneer supreme for the evening - Jonathan made
things go very smoothly with his light-hearted quips and professional
skills.
A wonderful
total was raised on the night of £3,106, this total will increase as we
still have to include the generous sponsorship by Henry Adams & Leaders.
Hopefully we will be able to publish the final figure in the next
bulletin.
From the
Social Committee.
